Lingo to let you in on the new generation:
  • Jones. A verb meaning to slight, as in "You jonesed that girl at the bar" , or to want something badly, as in "I'm jonesin' for new speakers."
  • McJobs. A word for mundane and marginally challenging work that provides a pay cheque and little else. From Douglas Copeland's novel Generation X.
  • Grunge. A fashion that celebrates the ill-kempt, lumberjack look.
  • Killer. An adjective meaning great, as in "That's a killer mountain bike."
  • Slacker. From a movie and a book of the same name; a drifting buster who works in a dead-end job.
  • Skanky. An adjective meaning unwashed, rank, undesirable.
  • Crunchy. To be ecologically correct.
  • Rave. Frenetic mob dance held in a warehouse, parking lot or under a bridge.
