- A seventeen-year-old raver said, "she agrees with City Hall's decision though she doesn't go to many raves or after-hours clubs. 'It's no fun to go out and party with 12-year-olds. And people under 16 shouldn't be out that late anyways, not to mention all the exposure to drugs.'"
- A sixteen-year-old raver "was glad councillors didn't make the age limit 18. 'I can see the 16-year age limit being fair. When you turn 16 you like to have somewhere to go without all those younger kids there.'"
- A twenty-year-old raver said "[while sitting in the bleachers at Edgefest at Telus Field on Wendesday], 'City Hall is wrong to be concerned about raves. You look around here and you see a lot of underage kids drinking. Sure there's drugs at raves but there's a lot more security and control. Here we've seen two fights already today and people are smoking marijuana and security just turns a blind eye. Raves are a lot more peaceful than a scene like [Edgefest].'"
- Counsellor Robert Noce: "To the property owners in and around the downtown core, I'm sorry. I don't have a solution that would satisfy everyone. Maybe there isn't one."
- Mayor Bill Smith said, "The new bylaw is tough. 'As we sort through the whole process of licensing, I think the neighbourhood will understand there's some real controls.'"
- Mike Peebles is quoted saying "those in the rave community got exactly what they were hoping for."
- Oliver Friedmann said, "I think some reasonableness broke out in there. This is one of the most comprehensive bylaws in the country in terms of the permit requirements."
- Lilian Pushor, general manager of the Alberta Suite Hotel, said "she still worried club owners wouldn't face any consequences if they contravene the bylaw. 'If at some point in time we get the bylaw officers in place, the resources they need to enforce the bylaws, then maybe this can work. We want to offer our guests who come into the city of Edmonton or our residents in the downtown area, a safe and peaceful place to be in the hours, especially between midnight and 7 a.m.'"

Cinderella can stay at the dance as long as she wants,
provided she's at least 16.
Proposals to close raves and after-hours clubs by 3 a.m.,
and kick out youths under age 18 by midnight -- the so-called Cinderella clause
-- have been axed by city council's executive committee.
Instead, all late-night dances will have to bar anyone under
the age of 16.
Council will debate the plan Aug. 28. [...]
The decision in favour of allowing all-night dancing for
anyone 16 and older came after an afternoon of discussion that included
comments from 15 members of the public. [...]
In the end, those in the rave community got exactly what
they were hoping for. [...]
